As a first step in preparation for IMTS, Boeing will demonstrate the
three machining processes in HARDMOLDY to Okuma on April 29.
STEP Tools has ported the STEP-NC Explorer so that it runs on the Okuma
simulator and Boeing is investigating how to integrate it with the Okuma
implementation of MT Connect.
The latest version of the HARDMOLDY data set includes the original
process developed by Boeing and the optimized processes developed by
Sandvik and Iscar. Tooling assemblies have been added for the Sandvik
tools and ISO 13399 data is included for both vendors.

Because of recent enhancements you should download the latest version of
the STEP-NC Explorer (10.18) before reading this data.
We discussed robot machining and concluded that STEP-NC can play a
useful role as a bridge between the off-line and on-line programming of
the robots. The on-line programming will identify the location of datums
for matching against the product model information in the STEP-NC
program. The planned toolpath coordinates can then be translated to the
datum world coordinates. A STEP-NC simulator can track the as-executed
toolpaths and determine a relationship between the volume of material
being cut and the displacement of the toolpaths. The STEP-NC simulator
can then compensate for the low rigidity of the robot by calculating an
optimal path for the final cut.
The next conference call will be held on Wednesday April 16th. The focus
of the call will be a report back from the latest round of testing at
Boeing. A recording of this conference call is at the address below:
