Hi Ian,
Thanks for reminding us about harmonizing with ISO 14649.
The measurement model for Edition 1 of AP-238 consists of the probing
operations defined by ISO 14649 and the GD&T information defined by
STEP. The proposal for Edition 2 is to add the inspection features
defined by AP-219 and some measurement metric and evaluation
information that is being defined for us by the DMIS community. The
current proposal is for the probing operation model to continue to be
harmonized with ISO 14649.
The plate and contour cutting model that we have developed is the
result a pilot project funded by the US shipbuilding industry. In the
pilot we performed plasma cutting and laser marking of steel parts
with and without bevels. In Part 15 we found information for wood and
stone cutting but not metal cutting.
The versions of Part 15 and Part 16 that we have are both more than
five years old. SC4 will be very interested to see the edition 2
versions when they are available. STEP has spent 10 years harmonizing
its GD&T model to meet the requirements of many applications so SC4
believes that SC1 should harmonize the new Part 16 with STEP.
We encourage SC1 members to come to our meeting in Dallas to learn
more about out plans for Edition 2 and see a demonstration of the
what can be done in Edition 1 using the harmonization of ISO 14649
and STEP GD&T.
At Ibusuki we asked Dr. Sakamoto to report back to us in Dallas about
the SC1 meeting in Frankfurt.
