XML Schema's for STEP Data

Significant progress was made on mapping STEP to XML at the ISO Sweden
meeting. It was agreed that Edition 2 of Part 28 will include a 
configuration language to define how STEP data should be mapped
into an XML Schema. 

STEP Tools and ProSTEP have both had significant success in showing
the value of a configuration language and Electric Boat has produced
a number of example XML Schemas for the shipbuilding AP's (AP-216,
AP-218 and AP-227). 

A workshop is going to be held in Troy on September 12th and 13th.

STEP for Plate Cutting

STEP Tools is a member of the new Integrated Steel Processing
Environment (ISPE) project. The project is an extension of the
ISE project (see above) into the manufacturing domain.  As part 
of this project STEP Tools will investigate the feasibility and
desirability of using STEP-NC (AP-238) to control plate cutting
operations.
