New Standards

There has been some significant progress on some important 
new standards in the last two weeks.

* AP-216 has passed its Draft International Standard (DIS) ballot 
  with zero NO votes. 
* AP-218 has been submitted to ISO to begin its DIS ballot. 
* AP-238 has been submitted to ISO to begin its CD ballot.

In shipbuilding AP-216 is a standard for ship moulded forms and
basically describes the shape of the ship that the customer wants
to purchase. 

AP-218 is a standard for ship steel structures and basically
describes how a ship yard proposes to construct an AP-216 ship
using steel structures.

AP-238 is the new standard for CNC data that defines a high level
feature oriented language for controlling machine tools. This
standard is more popularly called STEP-NC and has been featured
in many past newsletters.

The CD ballot is the first international ballot on a new standard.
The DIS is the second and possibly last ballot provided there are
zero NO votes. If there are some NO votes then a third FDIS ballot
is required to confirm that the issues raised by the NO voters have
been resolved.

        AP-209 Testing 
        STEP-NC/AP-238 Testing

STEP Manufacturing Meeting in Sweden

The following issues have been scheduled for discussion during the 
week.

        AP-219 Inspection data and results 
        AP-224 Features for NC 
        AP-238 Integrated CNC 
        AP-2XX Process Planning

Plus new models for contouring and bending, machining centers 
and tooling.
