The STEPml Site

SC4 experts,

In an effort to reach the non-STEP literate Web community, PDES, Inc. is
creating the STEPml Web site, http://www.stepml.org/. The first
specification is available covering about 10 percent of the STEP PDM
Schema.
Under the Specifications button the site now includes:

- a usage guide for Web implementors explaining the use of the product
identification and classification DTD (this is the same scope as the PDM
product identification module ISO 10303-1017 that will be out for ballot
shortly);
- the DTD for the PDM Schema version 1.2 (this does not yet come with a
usage guide for Web implementors);
- some basic overview information on the OSEB binding that is being used to
generate the DTDs from the EXPRESS.

The specification is a re-write of a portion of the PDM Schema Usage Guide,
taking the EXPRESS/Part 21 specific language out, and includes UML-ish
instance diagrams and example XML documents as well as the DTD.

Over time, the plan is to publish a complete usage guide covering all of
the PDM Schema and more for Web implementors at this site. The next PDM
area to be covered will be product structures (probably the Part structure
module ISO 10303-1026).

Another next step is to register these DTDs at the XML DTD registries and
repositories (e.g. OASIS and BizTalk).

Feedback is always welcome!

Cheers,
David
