Two Boeing use cases have been added to the benefits spreadsheet. The
first estimates the financial advantage of having access to a wider
database during process planning, and the second estimates the advantage
that would have accrued if STEP-NC had been in place during a crisis in
the development of the Boeing 787 when a large team of engineers had to
transfer work instructions from suppliers to Boeing for approval by the FAA.
A third Boeing use case is in development. It will to describe the
advantage of using STEP-NC for cost estimating.
The next action is to get additional use cases from Volvo, Scania and
Pratt and Whitney.

We discussed recent implementation of the ISO 13399 cutting tool
standard. A prototype has been implemented in which a Sandvik tooling
catalog was translated to a Siemens Team Center database so that it can
be used by a wide range of Siemens systems. The translation was
successful but time was lost when the object model was not immediately
understood by Siemens. They are now investigating whether to include a
more explicit description of the model in the next round of translation.
The next telecon will be held on Wednesday October 17th at the regular
times. A recording of this meeting is at the following ftp site:
