A brief demonstration of frame definition in the STEP-NC Explorer was
shown. The next step is to enable movement of the workpiece in the
fixture in response to measurements. An information model has been
developed for 'fixture_usage' that allow both the origin of the fixture
relative to the machine, and the origin of the setup relative to the
fixture to be set. The model is being implemented in the STEP-NC
Explorer and should be demonstrated next week. A suggestion was made
that it should be possible to set the location of the fixture using the
FARO arm. This will be further discussed at the Renton meeting.
The following schedule for completing the demonstration was discussed:
Week of September 15th Frame definition operational (current)
Week of September 22nd Workpieces that can move in the fixture -
decide what needs to be measured for each setup - recommendations for
feeds and speeds
Week of September 29th Setup compensation - new STEP-NC with
necessary faces machined in first setup - correct feeds and speeds in
the AP-238
Week of October 6th Testing at Boeing
Week of October 13th Demo
There is an issue in the second setup because one of the three faces
machined in the first setup is at the bottom of the part where it cannot
be measured. KTH will be asked to produce a new version of Boxy that
machines 5 faces (the top and part of the four sides) in the first setup.
The part will be machined in aluminum. At NIST it was machined in steel
so Boeing will compute new speeds and feeds.
The next call will be at the regular times on Wednesday September 22. A
meeting recording of this call is at the ftp below.
