Minutes of Conference Call on Thursday April 26 at 1PM France, 8PM
Japan and 7AM Eastern USA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Venue and Logistics
     -----------------------------

The demonstrations will be given in Ibusuki on Thursday July 5th
starting at 10:30 and finishing at either 1500 or 1700. If there is a
joint meeting with SC1 then it will be held on Wednesday. There will
not be any demonstrations in Tokyo.

The demonstrations will be given as part of an Open Seminar. This
will be one of three Open Seminars being held on successive days
during the Japanese meeting. There will be no charge for attendees at
the seminars.

Professor Kisinami will be asked to give the keynote speech at the
seminar. The title of the seminar will be "Planning, Machining and
Measurement using STEP and STEP-NC". We need to develop a short
description for distribution to interested parties. There will be
three demonstrations at our seminar.

1. Demonstration by Fanuc of ISO 14649 machining
2. 2.5D axis mold and die machining
3. 5 axis fish head machining and on-machine measurement

The Fanuc demonstration is not yet confirmed. The Fish head machining
and measurement demonstration will be given by video. We need to
develop a detailed schedule so that we can determine whether or not
the meeting should end at 15:00 or 17:00.

Participants are encouraged to prepare white papers describing their
software for distribution at the seminar.

2. Mold and Die Demonstration
     -----------------------------------------

Development of the AP-224 and AP-240 files for the mold and die parts
is on schedule. AP-224 files will be placed onto the ftp site before
the next conference call.

SCRA will need a fixed IP address for its demonstration.

3. Airbus Fish Head Demonstration
     -----------------------------------------------

The airbus fish head will be machined and measured at three sites
before the meeting and video tapes will be shown during the meeting.
The two confirmed sites are Sandvik and NIST. Sandvik will use
Sandvik cutting tools and NIST will use Kennametal tools. Airbus is
searching for a third site near Toulouse. NIST will machine the part
before the next conference call to confirm the accuracy of the tool
paths, feeds and speeds. Sandvik will machine the part on a Hermle
C40u machine with a Heidenhain iTNC530 controller. This will be the
first demonstration of 5-axis STEP-NC machining using a Heidenhain control.

Action Items
------------------
Martin Hardwick to prepare and circulate a short description of the seminar
Fred Proctor to develop a schedule for the seminar
Len Slovensky and Chiaki Sakamoto to deliver AP-224 files for the
model and die part to Martin Hardwick for placement on the ftp site
Chiaki Sakamoto to confirm participation in the demonstration by Fanuc
Alain Brail to confirm participation by a French site in the fish
head demonstration
NIST to machine the fish head to confirm validity of the tool paths,
speeds and feeds
STEP Tools and Sandvik to develop a STEP-NC converter for the
