DMG is interested in making a 5-axis CNC machine tool with an 840D control available for the Eastec demonstration.

The test part is large so different sections will be machined in each demonstration. Each demonstration will proceed roughly as follows:

1. Rough and semi-finish the section using AP-238 CC1 data generated by UGS.
2. Measure a feature of the semi-finished part using probing operations generate by Mastercam.
3. Use the measurement result to set the cutter compensation register.
4. Finish the part using AP-238 CC1 data generated by UGS.

For this demonstration to work we will need to extend the AP-238 CC1 translator for UGS to include cutter contact data as well as the currently supported cutter center data.

Action Items

* Sid Venkatesh to arrange a conference call with DMG America
* Fred Proctor to investigate how to shrink the test part and convert the blind holes into through holes.
* Fred Proctor to investigate how to program cutter compensation on the Siemens 840D.
* Chen Han to investigate feasibility of extending UGS STEP-NC translator to include cutter contact data.

The next telcon will be at 2PM on Thursday April 14th.
As recorded by Martin Hardwick on April 8th, 2005.
