Minutes of OMAC STEP-NC Meeting on February 17th.
-------------------------------------------------
CAM team:
There was a discussion on CC1 commercializations. The CAM vendors have everything they need to complete the CC1 implementation but need help in formulating the business plan and defining the benefits.
There was a discussion on the differences between machine level simulation and process level simulation. Most CAM systems only perform process level simulation but some perform machine level simulation using system specific interfaces. CAM level simulation of TCP paths is difficult because the CAM system does not know how the CNC will interpolate the axis movements.
CNC team:
It was confirmed that this team will decide how to define a AP-238 CC1 option for CNC controls.
Business Process team:
Four end users (Boeing, P&W, Lockheed and GM) are interested in using STEP-NC and OPC for closed loop manufacturing. A paper written by Christian Jesse on process control loops will be circulated for review. The team will discuss how to implement the concepts described using STEP-NC and OPC. NIST offered to run an experimental pilot using its 5-axis DMG machine. P&W will supply some models for the test. Lockheed is interested in using STEP-NC probing to determine the actual location of faces on cast parts.
AIAG is very interested in facilitating a STEP-NC demonstration at its Autotech meeting at the end of August. The Metrology group is also planning to demonstrate at this meeting.
Action Items:
Sid Venkatesh to circulate the Christian Jesse paper on process control loops
Fred Proctor to fill in the request form for the AIAG AutoTech presentations and demonstrations
Sid Venkatesh to speak at the Autotech meeting and give the end user perspective
Martin Hardwick to speak at the Autotech meeting and give the vendor perspective
Martin Hardwick to arrange a demonstration at the Defense Manufacturing Conference
Sid Venkatesh to talk Chuck Mabbot about GM requirements for feedback loops and the Autotech demo
Meeting Attendees:
Ray Admire, Lockheed Martin
Sid Venkatesh and Mauro Costas, Boeing Seattle
Ming Lui, Waris Jaffrey, Boeing Wichita
Carol Tierney, GDLS
Mark Cote, Pratt and Whitney
Fred Proctor, NIST
John Callen, GibbsCAM
Chen Han Lee, UGS
Martin Hardwick and David Loffredo STEP Tools
Apologies for absence:
David Odendahl, Boeing
The next telcon will be at 2PM on Thursday March 3rd.
As recorded by Martin Hardwick on February 17, 2005.
