[wg11] compiler lists (was STEPMod EXPRESS Clean-Up)

All:

Two SharePoint lists have been created:

EXPRESS Compiler Product: Records information about a compiler product, independent of version and platform (e.g., "EEP").
EXPRESS Compiler Version: Records information about a specific version of a compiler product, for a specific platform (e.g., "EEP v1.2 for Windows"). Each record is linked to a record of the EXPRESS Compiler Product list.

There are links to these lists in the Lists section of the navigation pane of the SC 4 SharePoint site (http://sp.tc184-sc4.org/default.aspx).

If you have any comments about the design of the lists, please let me know.

The developers (i.e., everybody on the TO line) are in a group that has "contribute" access to the list, so you will be able to make your own additions in the future.

Please note that entries in the EXPRESS Compiler Version list will be referenced from the internal review or project leader checklist (questions about which compilers were used to compile the EXPRESS code for a part). Therefore, it is important that people not delete or make substantive changes to entries in the EXPRESS Compiler Version list. When a new compiler version comes out, the developer should add an entry to the list, but not delete the entry for the previous version, or modify the old entry to replace the old version number with the new version number, as such changes would make the checklist data invalid.

Best regards,
Gerry

Gerry,

I have sent you the information you requested by separate e-mail.

In this forum I would like to know the process by which this information can be updated. All developers on the distribution list are (I hope!) constantly updating their code as they improve their algorithms or bugs are reported. As a result the version information supplied on this form will soon be out of date. Version 1.4 of Eep is currently undergoing testing and will soon be available publically (for free as always ;-). At that point I would like to update the information you hold to reflect the latest version. It would be best if I could do the update myself to ensure the information correctly reflects not only version changes, but also any changes to supported platforms etc.

Best regards
Phil

Subject: RE: STEPMod EXPRESS Clean-Up

Dear EXPRESS compiler developers:

I am collecting a list of EXPRESS complier [name, version, platform, link] tuples, for a list that will be referenced from a SharePoint version of the internal review checklist. This will enable project teams to more precisely specify which compilers were used to compile their schemas, which I hope will lead to higher schema quality. I only need compilers that are likely to be in use today by SC 4 project teams (historical versions from 10 years ago are not needed).

The link field is optional and is intended to go to a download page for the compiler. If the same download page is used for several versions, it could be repeated in several tuples.

NOTE The list of compilers that were used to compile schemas for a part is currently in the project leader approval checklist, but I am proposing to move it to the internal review checklist.

Could you please send me the information by 2009-11-02? Please send using the attached spreadsheet or as a CSV file if possible.

Please forward this email to any software providers not on the distribution list.

Kind regards,
Gerry Radack

Gerry,

I think the LFOAS may cause problems due to the differences in modelling styles etc. Though I do agree it is something we should look at.

Before we get there though we also need to look at SFOAS (short form of all schemas). This may give us the ability to identify problems and the source of those problems before we generate the LFOAS from it.
