From edbark at nist.gov Fri Mar 21 15:09:31 2008 From: edbark at nist.gov (Ed Barkmeyer) Date: Fri Mar 21 15:14:45 2008 Subject: [wg11] [Fwd: Reference Metamodel for EXPRESS Information Modeling Language RFC available] Message-ID: <47E407EB.5060805@nist.gov> All, This is the beginning of the OMG fast-track standardization process. The web page referenced below is the OMG work-in-progress page for the RFC, which may not be accessible to non-OMG-members. The RFC specification itself is at: http://www.omg.org/cgi-bin/doc?mantis/08-02-05 and that page should be publicly accessible. The comment period is open until end of May, 2008. All comments should be posted to rfc-comments@omg.org and I don't think you have to be an OMG member to post them. (If the email is rejected, post comments to wg11@steptools.com, and we will forward.) "Significant concerns", such as conflict with other standards, incomplete coverage, major implementation concerns for the approach, should be raised at this time, and may prevent OMG adoption. "Minor technical issues" can also be raised, and they must be addressed by a Finalization Task Force (Editing Committee) before publication of the v1.0 specification. Thanks to all the MEXICO project participants (listed on the cover) who contributed to this effort, and in particular to Uwe Kaufmann, David Price, and Bernd Wenzel, who championed this work at various times and places. Thanks also to Drs Sanderson, Spiby, Maier, and Wilson, on whose prior work this specification was originally based. -Ed -- Edward J. By the DTC: * Reference Metamodel for EXPRESS Information Modeling Language RFC [This standardizes an XMI (ISO 19502) exchange form for EXPRESS schemas. The primary use is for formal mappings to languages like UML and OWL, e.g., an executable formalization of Part 25.] ... By the PTC: * Abstract Syntax Tree Metamodel (ASTM) Revised Submission [This standard was developed by toolsmiths who do software analysis. Bernd Wenzel has suggested that we may want to align the metamodel for Expression in the EXPRESS metamodel with this one.] * SysML 1.1 RTF Final Report ... The next step in the adoption process for these technologies is the Vote to Recommend to the Board of Directors by the Business Committee at their Orlando meeting. Upon BC recommendation, a Vote to Adopt by the Board of Directors will be conducted electronically. ================================================================== Fred Waskiewicz OMG Director of Standards and Liaisons 140 Kendrick Street, Building A, Suite 300 wask@omg.org / +1 781 444-0404 x127 Needham, MA, USA 02494 ==================================================================
