David, Heidi,
I want to amend your classification of requirements by the following
essential aspect/category, since our requirements does not fit your category
description:
2b) configurable schema taking the AP data model into account
--------------------------------------------------------------
A XML schema is defined taking the AP data model (STEP EXPRESS schema)
explicitly/precisely into account. P28Ed2 is used to formally describe the
generation of that XML schema out of the (original) AP data model.
Also, please rename your original No. 3) to "configurable schema without
taking the AP data model into account"
In addition, from our point of view, your categories 1) and 2) are somehow
orthogonal to 2b) and 3), since 1) and 2) are independent from the
configuration aspect - and also keep in mind that the decision what is an
configuration option or not depends on the definition of the
standard/default mapping from EXPRESS to XSD.
>From our perspective, 1) in combination with 2b) must be covered in P28Ed2.
BTW: we have a similar opinion as Tom: EXPRESS-based tools should not be
required for type-safety validation (this could be done e.g. in separate
applications as outlined by Tom as well), but they might be used (this
decision should be up to the implementers).
Rgds,
Günter
