Ed,

    Sorry, but I'm not at all sure how to take your statement. Did you
mistype US for UK? Do you think I'm a non-US expert? I certainly never meant
to give any hint that I was in favour (UK spelling, not US, does that imply
anything?) of removing the language_version_id.

    If there was a guarantee that all future Editions of EXPRESS would be
upwards compatible, then there would be an argument for removal. If it is
removed and perhaps replaced by a compiler option, then what guarantee is
there that the caller of a compiler gives the correct option?

    On the other hand, removing the language_version_id would give a parser
one less thing to parse.
