Sandvik delivered STEP models for their recommended cutting tools
with feed and speed selections in a spread sheet in the following
ZIP.
ISCAR gave us a demonstration of their tool library system and
delivered a spreadsheet with their feed and speed recommendations.
KTH will now create a set of cutting tools for the demonstrations by
mixing components from the two sets of cutting tool selections.

The new cutting tools will be made as STEP assemblies containing the
required tolerances and the component selections. The new STEP files
will then be sent to STEP Tools for splitting. In order to split,
STEP Tools will need to implement a method for referencing the the
geometry of the components from the toleranced assembly. Several
methods for splitting STEP files have been discussed in the CAX-IF
forum, LOTAR and at other venues. STEP Tools will examine these
methods and select what seems to be the best method for the cutting
tool demonstration. We will then demonstrate the chosen method at a
new joint meeting that is being scheduled by Wg11 for the afternoon
of Monday June 11.
We discussed the demonstration project schedule. KTH has modeled the
positional accuracy of its machine tool and they will share the new
data with NIST in a conference call on Friday. Now that the cutting
tool recommendations have been made KTH can complete the STEP-NC
program.
Action Items
-----------------
1. KTH to complete the STEP-NC program.
2. KTH, Sandvik and ISCAR to create cutting tool models from the
STEP data supplied by the cutting tool vendors.
3. KTH and STEP Tools to complete the fixture model
4. STEP Tools to research methods for splitting STEP files without
loosing tolerance and kinematic information.
