KTH gave a demonstration of ISO 13399 tool export from Siemens NX. A
two stage process was demonstrated. In the first stage a tool model
was exported from NX as AP-214 with semantic GD&T data attached.
This data was then read into the STEP-NC Explorer which was able to
recognize the semantic GD&T information. In the second stage an
interactive tool was used to add ISO 13399 properties to the data
for the previously dimensioned functional length and cutting
diameter attributes. The result was an AP-214 file with ISO 13399
properties defined. <br>

The team agreed that this approach is very promising because it
gives end-users the ability to define functional properties for CAD
models that can be used to define behavior in manufacturing systems.
In the example a machining simulator will use the functional length
to define the distance between the tool path cutting point and the
spindle. In another example, a CAM system will use the cutting
diameter for path planning, and we anticipate being able to map many
of the machine tool properties being defined by SC1 and ASME onto
the geometry models for machines in the same way.<br>

We reviewed an architecture for open manufacturing. The team agreed
that the architecture shows promise. The key issues are <br>
<br>
1. How to encourage the developers of planning services to deliver
their results as STEP-NC data.<br>
2. How to wrap STEP-NC machining systems with MT Connect interfaces
for networking.<br>
3. How to support additive manufacturing systems that typically have
their own custom CAM system.<br>
