We continued the blue sky discussion on IMTS 2018 with a focus on how to
run the demonstration. The following suggestions were made:

 1. Machine and measure in multiple stages at the booths of multiple vendors
 2. The required fixture and tooling should be known well in advance
 3. Part and feature dimensions should be varied at the last minute, as
    should the routings between vendors
 4. Use an autonomous robots and/or students to move the part around the
    show.
 5. Have screens showing a blackboard of the current results and
    activities.

The following questions were asked about the process:

 1. Will it be a 3-axis or 5-axis challenge?
 2. Will it be a mill or mill-turn challenge?
 3. Will it be an additive and subtractive challenge or an exclusively
    subtractive challenge?

The following observations were made about the exiting test parts:

 1. Fishhead is heavy (25 pounds before machining, 5 pounds after).
 2. Boxy requires careful setup against the datums
 3. CDS part with a cone in the middle is familiar for machinists
 4. NIST has a test part for additive manufacturing see
    https://www.nist.gov/programs-projects/qualification-additive-manufacturing-materials-processes-and-parts

To start the process of selection we asked what pain points are we
addressing?

 1. Interoperability / build anywhere / measure anywhere
 2. Correction of features
 3. Flexible process and quick support for new applications (IFTTT.com)

The next conference call will be on July 19th *one week later than
normal* because of the demonstration at the DMDII on July 12th.

Recorded by Martin Hardwick
Convener ISO STEP WG15 Digital Manufacturing

Action Items:
John Horst to discuss additive / subtractive test cases with NIST
Bob Ericksson to ask P&W additive group about mixed additive-subtractive
examples
