We discussed the tooling setup. The cutter proposed by Sandvik is
commonly used in the industry because it enables faster milling and has
better tool wear. The profile characteristics make it more difficult to
control than ordinary cutters so it is ideal for demonstrating the
advantages of simulating machining tool wear on or near the control in
real time.
We reviewed the current suite of demonstrations at:
http://www.steptools.com/demos/mtc/ (no special software required)
Many of the model issues have been resolved with the fixtures now being
placed correctly. STEP Tools has been "cleaning" the data to remove
small issues so that it can be used as an example for the next edition
of STEP-NC. This work is continuing and the plan is to release a "final"
version next week so that Sandvik can add the tooling, PSU can generate
the titanium process, and Mitutoyo can define the tolerances.
France and the USA have both reviewed the STEP-NC AP238 second edition
proposal (NWI). France is requesting the inclusion of additive
manufacturing (3D printing) and the USA is requesting the inclusion of
composite tape layup.
We have performed some dry runs and are getting a MTConnect response
rate from the Okuma machine in the Boeing lab that is close to 10ms.
The next meeting will be at the regular times on Wednesday July 27th.
Apologies our systems would not allow us to make a recording of this call
