We discussed the CAM Tooling pilot. The pilot will prove that a CNC user
can send a STEP-NC program to a cutting tool vendor for optimization.
The first tests will be performed on two lab machines and will be
followed as soon as possible by production testing.

The face to face meeting on June 24 and 25 at CCAM will discuss what
information is required to enable the cutting tool optimization. This
will include the programming data in the STEP-NC program and any
necessary performance characteristics of the CNC machine.

The CAM Tooling pilot is the first of three being planned. The second
pilot will investigate how to adjust the contours of cutting profiles to
fit the as-measured dimensions of assemblies. The third pilot will seek
to build a manufacturing simulation network by extending the STEP
infrastructure to be more modular and inclusive of other data formats.
