Machine tool simulations have been completed for the KTH trunnion and
the CCAT DMU e70 and one is in progress for the Boeing Northwood
gantry. The DUM e70 simulator has a "Nutating" table with a
non-orthogonal B axis.
SC1/Wg7 held a telcon on Tuesday Feb 3 to discuss the requirements
for machine tool modeling. They are drafting a letter to solicit
input from the machine tool vendors.
Alain Brail suggested that a video be made showing the parts being
machined in the three different simulators.
An AP-203 e2 / AP-214 e3 import translator for workpieces has been
implemented. The import has been tested with AP-203 e2 files produced
by Catia v5 R19.

KTH has investigated the kinematics model in AP-214. The AP-214
kinematics model can represent both open and closed kinematic chains.
Preliminary results show that the machine tool models we have been
developing can be mapped into AP-214 along with key properties such
as maximum spindle speed, maximum feed rate, maximum acceleration and
maximum jerk. The approach used is the same as the one developed in
Germany for representing Gears in AP-214. An example data file and a
presentation are available at the URL's below.

The following are the upcoming deadlines for the demonstration:
February 21st - Complete and test 3 and 5 axis manufacturing plans
for the part (AP-238 models)
March 4th - Partners commit to participate in the demonstration
May 6th - Partners complete machining and measurement of the part
May 14th - First day of demonstration at Boeing
May 15th - 737 tour and measurement demonstrations at Mitutoyo
May 18th - SC4 Technical meetings begin in Parksville, Vancouver
Island, BC, Canada
May 20th - STEP-NC technical meetings at SC4 end.
The next conference call will be held on Wednesday February 18th at
the usual times.
Action items
------------------
1. David Odendahl to complete AP-203 and AP-238 models for the test part.
2. Sid Venkatesh to clarify any restrictions on nationality
restrictions a the Boeing facilities.
3. STEP Tools to produce a video showing the simulators in action.
4. STEP Tools to deliver an updated version of the STEP-NC explorer
containing the simulator and AP-203 e2 translator to Boeing, NIST,
CCAT and KTH.
5. Partners to commit to participation in the demonstration by March 4th.
