--------------------------------
David Odendahl, Boeing
Xun Xu, University of Auckland
Gary Hargreaves, Mastercam

The next demonstration will be held at Boeing facilities near the
Seattle airport from May 13-15. These dates have been chosen to
coincide with the SC4 meeting from May 10-15 so that those who wish
can attend the first two days of the SC4 meeting on Vancouver island
and then continue to the T24 demonstration in Seattle.

The theme of the demonstration will be CAM/CNC interoperability
across enterprises. A test part (or parts) will be selected from a
list to be presented by Pratt and Whitney, Mastercam, Mitutoyo and
Sandvik. The part will be a mold and the machining will be divided
into five operations so that each of the cutting teams (Boeing, CCAT,
KTH, NIST and Sandvik) can machine at least one of the operations
developed by each of the other cutting teams. A matrix showing the
concept is on the ftp site at:

ftp://ftp.steptools.com/private/Vancouver/Matrix_machining.pdf

The technical goal for the demonstration will be to discover ways to
make data exchange of machining processes between enterprises more
efficient. In order to reach these goals it will be necessary for
each of the sites to be able to simulate the machining of the other
sites, to fine-tune the feeds and speeds of the other sites, and to
change the axial and radial depths of the tool paths geometries made
by the other sites.

A document describing the scenario and technical goals for the
demonstration will be made by Fred Proctor.

This technical document will be reviewed during the next conference
call. Other goals for the next conference call include selecting the
test part and selecting the model to be used for the machine tool
simulation. The two candidate machine tool models are the models
developed by the University of Bath and the ASME.

Other sites will be invited to join the demonstration when the
initial teams have finished developing the test data.

The next conference call will be on Wednesday October 29.

Action items
------------------
Fred Proctor to develop document describing the scenario.
Gary Hargreaves, Bob Erickson, Larry Maggiano and Bengt Ollson to
find potential test parts.
Martin Hardwick to develop machine tool simulator using either the
U.Bath or ASME model.
