Folks,
Here are my notes from the meeting. Please let me know
if any errors need to be corrected.
I have taken the liberty of putting you all on an e-mail
exploder for STEP-Manufacturing hosted by STEP Tools, Inc.
This exploder has no official status because we have not
yet decided if we belong to Wg3/T19 or Wg3/T11 and we have
not picked a leader.
However, we have decided that I will organize the next meeting
in Portugal and I will use this exploder to facilitate that
meeting. Anyone may add themselves to, or remove themselves
from this exploder using the standard instructions provided
by Majordomo. These instructions are listed at

Meeting was held from 8AM to 5PM on Thursday, October 13, 2000.
The host for the meeting was ISO TC184/SC4/Wg3/T19.
Dr. Sakamoto presented an ARM for AP-213 that
is harmonized with ISO 14649 and AP-224
The new ARM makes a distinction between
Machine Design Feature (AP-224) and
Machine Process Feature (14649)
The AAM assumes four manufacturing processes
A1 input=AP-203 and output=AP-224 (feature recognition)
A2 input=AP-224 and output=AP-213 (process planning)
A3 input=AP-213 and output=14649 (generate NC program)
A4 input=14649 (manufacturing)
Prof Kishinami described a manufacturing task force that is
being proposed to SC4 with the goal of producing a report.
The plan is to ask the SC4 countries to nominate experts
by the end of November and to meet just before the Portugal
meeting. The task force was approved by SC4 and countries
are invited to nominate experts.
Alan Crawford UK MoD Ship Support Agency presented issues
with the scope of the existing AP-213 and the extension
to AP-213 proposed at Bordeaux.
There was an extended discussion. Concerns were discussed
on the relationship between Part 10 of ISO 14649 and AP-213
There was informal agreement that the SC4 manufacturing
task force proposed by the Japanese should investigate this
relationship in more detail, and that this work should not
delay the development and deployment of STEP-NC.
Presentation by Dr. David Loffredo on a prototype
AIM for STEP-NC. (Slides available)
There was a discussion on the meaning of the Tool data
in 14649-11. There was agreement that the data defines
the tool required for an operation, not a particular
tool.
The team recommended the USA submit an NWI for STEP-NC
to SC4 with the proviso that the NWI references 14649-11
as its ARM. Seven countries (USA, Switzerland, Germany,
UK, Japan, Korea and Sweden) indicated that they would be
able to nominate technical experts to the NWI.
The team agree to meet in Portugal for one day on the
Thursday. Agenda items are to be sent to Martin Hardwick
and the new exploder for STEP-manufacturing. The agenda
will include an update on the 14649 AIM and AP-213.
A presentation was given by Prof Krishinami on an XML
model for NC machining
