STEP Manufacturing in Funchal

The manufacturing presentations made in Funchal have been put into a ZIP
file and put onto a new web site that will be used to store the minutes
and history of the STEP manufacturing team. The URL for the site is:

    http://www.steptools.com/manforum/meetings.html

Inside the ZIP file you will find:

* The first public presentations on the STEP-NC models for Turning,
  Wire EDM and Sink EDM.
* A presentation describing STEP-NC in Korea.
* A list of issues regarding harmonization with AP-224
* Information on a new ISO model for cutting tools and machine
  resources.

Product Plans for 2001

A set of slides describing our product plans for 2001 can be found at
the following URL:

    http://www.steptools.com/products/plans_2001.pdf

If you look at these slides you will find:

* ST-Repository is our solution for sharing and exchanging STEP and
STEP-NC data with the supply chain using XML.

* ST-Developer is enhanced with new support for Unicode characters,
better support for Part 21 Edition 2, better EXPRESS to HTML
generation and more features in many of the tools.

* ST-Viewer is enhanced to include automatic dimension measuring.

* STEP Commerce projects are now available to (i) measure the manufacturing
cost and process time benefits of STEP-NC for an enterprise and (ii) develop
an action plan for the implementation of STEP-NC across the internal and
external
supply chains of an enterprise so that machining tasks can be sub-contracted
  using XML and STEP-NC.

------------------------------
STEP Tools to open North American STEP-NC Center

The North American STEP-NC center will be a resource that can be used
by STEP-NC Commerce projects to run demonstrations and test cases of
STEP-NC manufacturing for an enterprises vendors and suppliers.

Mike Kutcher Remembered

One of the founding members of STEP Tools died last week. Mike was an
old-time IBM'er who refused to retire. His passion was manufacturing.
He is the reason why STEP Tools focus has always been on bringing the
benefits of standard data to manufacturing.

We will miss him badly. There are some tributes to Mike on our home
page. If you want to add your own tribute please send us e-mail.
