MariSTEP Demonstrations
The DARPA sponsored MariSTEP program gave a demonstration last week
of data exchange using AP-215 (ship arrangements), AP-216 (ship molded
forms) and AP-217 (ship piping).
In the first demonstration, ship molded form data was constructed in
a Tribon CAD system and transfered to an Intergraph CAD system. Ship
arrangement data was then added to the molded form data using the
Intergraph CAD system, and the new data was written to a Newport News
Vivid CAD system. The arrangements and molded forms were then modified
using the Vivid system and the result was sent back to the original
Tribon and Integraph systems.
The second demonstration transfered ship piping data from a Mainframe
computer at Electric Boat running CATIA to a ComputerVision system in
South Carolina. ST-Developer was used to construct STEP translators in
both of the demonstrations. More information MariSTEP can be found at:

STEP-NC Meeting at NCMS
A meeting of the STEP-NC group (ISO TC184/SC1/WG7) will be held in the
United States next week. The group is working to define a standard
that will allow Numerically Controlled (NC) machine tools to create
parts directly from STEP product models. The meeting will be held on
Tuesday and Wednesday at the headquarters of the NCMS organization in
Ann Arbor, Michigan. The EXPRESS-X mappings and SDAI Java bindings for
STEP-NC developed by STEP Tools, Inc. will be one of the topics for
discussion.
